Vikings and Mead: Copenhagen Historical Market

Copenhagen Historical Market 2026

Sticking with the festival theme, there’s one more event worth mentioning – and definitely worth saving on your calendar for next year. I’m talking about the Copenhagen Historical Market, which rolls into Copenhagen around late May.

So what is it? Imagine over 1,000 people dressed as Vikings, knights, craftsmen, jugglers, and everything in between. It’s a full-blown medieval market with shows, demonstrations, and stalls selling handmade goods.

I usually try to visit one or two medieval markets each summer – they’re organized in many places across Denmark. But this one is special because it sits right in the heart of Copenhagen.

I’ve been a couple of times. I’ve also missed it quite a few times, because it always seems to land on the same long weekend in May when we’re already traveling. But when I do make it, I come home with way too much mead. Then again, who can say no to that delicious honey wine on a warm summer day?

Anyway, if you get the chance to visit next year – give it a go.
