Last weekend, something truly miraculous happened: the weather in Denmark was—brace yourself—awesome. Naturally, I decided to seize the day and head to the beach. But let’s be honest, going to a beach near central Copenhagen on a sunny weekend is like showing up at a party where everyone was invited. So, I opted for a less obvious plan.
A friend suggested grabbing ice cream near Jægerspris Slot, a former summer castle for Danish royalty. “Best ice cream ever,” they said. And let me tell you—they were not exaggerating. This ice cream was so good. After devouring our ice cream, it was time to finally hit the beach.
When we arrived, there was a twist: to reach the beach, you have to walk through the water. At first, I thought, “This can’t be right,” but it turned out to be one of the coolest parts of the trip. The water was ankle-deep, crystal clear, and unbelievably warm. It felt like we’d stumbled into some tropical oasis—not the Denmark I’m used to, where “summer” usually means wearing a jacket.
The beach was perfect for families. Kids could run wild in the shallow, warm water without a care, while adults could venture further out to where the water reached shoulder height—and still spot shells on the seabed. It’s the kind of place where you can just relax and take in the natural beauty.
One word of caution: the beach’s size depends on the tides and wind. When my friend returned the next day, the beach was much bigger. But when we came back two days later, it had shrunk significantly.
But honestly, you don’t go there for the size of the beach or the silky sand. You go for the amazing water.
Trust me—once you visit, you’ll be planning your next trip before you even leave.
