Borreby Herreborg

Borreby Herreborg

Herreborg in Danish means lord’s castle. This place is not “big fairytale” castle, rather a fortified manor house. But in Denmark even the hill is called mountain 😉

Today the place is used as cultural venue with art gallery and theater. It is the best preserved Renaissance building and was built in 1556.

Park and outsides of the buildings are free for public viewing. Even though the place is really tiny, it is gorgeous and has its charm.

The park is really lovely with one tiny little hut in the middle. There is a lot of ducks walking around as Denmark is a land of ducks;)

When I was walking around I found an old stone that had a very memorable text written on it:

een aerlig wen er ikke at betale med sølw eller guld

which means that

a true friend cannot be bought with silver or gold”.

Borreby Herreborg is a short drive from Copenhagen. It took me around an hour and half to get there from the city center.

Except for the manor, there are only fields around with  birds that have a death wish and jump in front of the incoming car. Lucky for them and me I managed to break in time 😉
