I think Kyoto was the best place to visit in Japan. It is an ancient capital that is home to over 1,600 historic Buddhist temples! On top of that, there are over 400 shrines all over the city. Even if you want to visit them all I think it will be impossible 🙂 All the temples surrounded by cherry blossoms during the sakura season looked terrific! Let’s not forget about going to the geisha district or visiting the famous bamboo forest!
Kyoto also has one of the world’s largest collections of UNESCO World Heritage Sites (12 Buddhist temples, 3 Shinto shrines and one castle)
Additionally, it is straightforward to make some one-day trips from Kyoto:
The city itself was not as busy and crowded as Tokyo, so I regretted not staying there couple more days.
In the incoming posts, I will write more about what to see. As I wrote before Kyoto is enormous and you need to divide the map and have a couple days to be able to fit all that you would like to see.
Meanwhile, take a look at some pictures from Kyoto 🙂
