Den Tilsandede Kirke also known as The Buried Church is a church from 14th century. During 18th century it slowly became devoured by sand. The villagers tried to fight with nature for many years but it was a futile fight and they had to give up. After that, the church got demolished leaving only the tower standing. The tower then became both the symbol of the power of the nature and a navigational landmark for the ships. The whole village sounding the church also got buried underneath the sand.
On the picture you can see how the place used to look:
You should try climbing to the top of the tower as from there you will be able to see how big the church used to be – there are poles in the ground symbolising walls of the church.
It costs 20 kr to climb the tower.
There is no credit card reader! You can pay by MobilePay or by using cash.
However, the internet coverage is not great so you might have to walk a little bit to get enough bars to make the payment. (yeah, of course I didn’t have any cash on me… got used to cards and MobilePay way too much 😉 )
It is another place that demonstrates the power of the nature. As previous sites, it is amazing and really scary when you realise that the whole village got buried completely under the sand!
